Traffic soars at airport

With almost a month to go in the travel year, Charlottetown airport broke its annual traffic record Monday when passenger number 212,492 picked up his boarding pass at the Air Canada ticket counter.
Campbell said the growth of traffic at Charlottetown Airport has made it the fastest growing airport in Atlantic Canada and the fourth fastest nationally after Fort McMurray and Grande Prairie, Alta., and Abbotsford, B.C.

I am responding to ‘Tourism marketers must show what makes P.E.I. stand out: speaker’ (The Guardian, Nov. 20, 2006 and the editorial of Monday, Nov. 27, 2006. (A ‘gentle’ push for smart marketing.)

My vision for tourism is Islandwide. I was fortunate to work with the Prince Edward Hotel and Convention Centre promoting the property and the greater Charlottetown area; with the Meetings P.E.I. board, helping to facilitate the recent Charlottetown mergers; with Festival and Events P.E.I. board, promoting festivals Islandwide; and with the Hotel Motel Association of P.E.I., and the development of their first regional newspaper package insert.

PEI SCORES WITH MAKING THE CONNECTION LEGENDS OF GOL

– Tourism PEI and IMG Canada jointly released a post-event report today on last summer’s Making the Connection Legends of Golf event that featured Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson. The English broadcast was aired nationally on Global TV while the French broadcast was shown on R.D.S. This fall, the Legends of Golf will have several airings on the New England Sports Network in the U.S. The post-event report details the significant media generated by the event, as well as the results of an on-site survey of spectators.

Room tax coming to aid tourism

Group working to revive matinee track in St. Peters

ST. PETERS — There is nothing like a day at the races, and no one knows that better than the people of the St. Peters/Morell region, who remember race days at the Central Kings Driving Park over the past 100 years.

Since the turn of the last century, this little matinee horse racing track has been a hub activity for horse owners, horse lovers and the community.
