Summer Spud another success

The 17th Summer Spud was a huge success this year with more than 260 people taking part.

The golf tournament attracted approximately 150 golfers this year. It began with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start at the Rustico Resort Golf and Country Club and the Clyde River Golf Course on Thursday, Aug. 10. A respectable score of 64 was shot at the Rustico course by the foursome of Charlie Wilkinson, Val MacLean, Roger Beasley and Rosemary Scott, who earned the right to have their names engraved on the Jim Fletcher Memorial Trophy for 2006.

Island cyclists ride on world stage

Island mountain bikers took on the world this weekend at the world mountain bikes championships in Rotorua, New Zealand. In the men’s elite cross-country race, Victoria’s Seamus McGrath was the first Canadian across the line in 25th place overall. Victoria’s Geoff Kabush was 36th.

P.E.I. officially named host of 2009 Canada Games

There were huge smiles on everyone’s faces Monday as Premier Pat Binns and Cultural Affairs Minister Elmer MacFadyen took possession of the official flag of the 2009 Canada Games — signalling the formal crowning of P.E.I. as the host province.
